Big trip
When I was 8 my family moved to a tropical island in Japan called Okinawa. Okinawa is the largest part of the Ryukyu Islands. We lived there for three years before we had to go back to the states. This story is about that travel.
When we first heard about us moving to Ohio we were a little depressed but after our whole lives of moving we were used to it so we moved on. We said goodbye to all the temporary friends we made and even some good ones that we knew from before. We got packed and got ready for the flight.
It was November of 2008 and we were finally leaving. The first leg of are journey was from Naha airport, this is the biggest city on the Island. We got onto are ANA Boeing 777 and took-off for Tokyo. The flight was 2 hours long. I remember as we were coming in, saying to my mom” hey look its Mt.Fuji. ” she replied saying “I wish we were staying long enough to climb it.” After that we landed we waited for our next flight to St Louis. This was going to be the hard one flying for 14 hours straight, but first are flight had to get here. It was delayed being grounded in Seattle because of storms. So it was time to take some sleeping bags out and wait it out.
We ended up staying at Tokyo national airport overnight there were a lot of people were also waiting to get back to the states many military some family members coming back to the states after seeing their brother or cousin and even son. Finally as early morning came the flight flew in and we finally we were able to board the gigantic four engine Boeing 747 the plane would non-stop take us to St. Louis. We boarded the plane and I looked outside preparing to take-off and I remember think to myself “big plane, big airport, small people, a lot of space, going back.” After three years overseas I was finally going back to the states where the steering wheel is on the left side and you drive on the right, where you can and fresh water fish, where you watch a football game without being up at four in the morning. I couldn’t wait! As we took off there were the usual safety talk and the little kids crying I was probably awake for the first three hours then I fell asleep. When I woke up it was dark outside and we were over the pacific the flight attendants were handing out drinks and we still had 8 hours for the flight. I sat there awake for the rest of the 8 hours.
Finally we made it to St. Louis are next flight didn’t take off for Dayton till the next day so we stayed at a La quanta nearby. When the next day came we got into a small Learjet and flew for Dayton, a 2 hour flight. When we finally landed we were ecstatic, we finally were at our new and first permanent home of Ohio and were ready to find a house.
